WPI Wins Award for Outstanding Work on the Washington Square Mall Expansion
In June of 2006, WPI was proud to receive the 2006 Outstanding Interior Commercial Project of the Year Award, presented by the Northwest Wall and Ceiling Bureau, for work on the Washington Square Mall Expansion. The 83,500 square foot expansion encompassed two stories and added twenty eight new retailers along with one new restaurant to the Mall’s existing 1.25 million square feet of retail and restaurant space. The new wing is anchored by The Cheesecake Factory and boasts many retailers making their Oregon debut including Pottery Barn Kids and Sephora.
WPI worked closely with Howard S. Wright and DLR Group to complete this project in six months. For WPI, the project consisted of 8,000 linear feet of exterior structural framing at the parapets and entries to the new Mall with Dens Glass Gold and a cement plaster finish. The interior free floating ceiling of the expansion was constructed with 36,500 square feet of suspended sheetrock. The project included over 10,000 linear feet of soffit which bordered twelve massive skylights in the ceilings and surround the Mall at the second floor line. The suspended ceiling and soffits are laced with reveal joints and trim which combine for a total of over five miles of detail.
The scope of work for WPI on this project included structural and light-gauge framing, drywall, finish taping, and plaster. WPI is proud of its award-winning work on the Washington Square Mall Expansion and glad to have had a chance to show how experience and expertise can combine to produce one of the finest shopping malls in the Portland area.
