WPI Shows Off Award Winning Talents of Skilled Tradesmen with Old World Charm

 After eight months of construction, WPI finished work on The West End project in July, 2008.  The West End is a two building, two story, commercial complex, located in Dundee, Oregon.  The upper floors of both buildings include a 20 room boutique hotel while the lower levels are made up of office and restaurant space.  These buildings were constructed utilizing wood framing and plywood sheathing.  At the time of construction, these were the largest structures designed and built in the Dundee area.

The scope of this project was quite involved, incorporating multiple exterior finishes, including stucco, brick, and stone.  Prior to exterior finish applications, Western Partitions installed a liquid applied air barrier over sheathing which protects the entire building.  WPI tradesmen then installed the Portland Cement Plaster and finish.  WPI also installed the lath and plaster scratch coat, which was used as the base for the brick and stone finishes.  The exterior facings are accented with plant on expanded polystyrene foam shapes which are meshed and finished, forming arches and trims at the windows and gables.  Multiple false window dormers and chimneys were built and finished with stucco prior to placement and integration into the roofing system.

The final stucco system was integrated seamlessly to the brick and stone, creating a modern, protective exterior while still portraying old world charm.  The West End buildings add a classical presence to the area and will become a focal point to those whom are traveling to the Oregon Coast or the Willamette Valley wine country for years to come.

WPI was awarded the 2009 Outstanding Project of the Year Award from the Northwest Wall & Ceiling Bureau in the Commercial Exterior category based on the high level of workmanship displayed by the WPI tradesmen on this project.  The employees of WPI are proud to have played an important part in the construction of this fine business establishment..
